Dear Family!
I hope everyone is taking time to remember on this All Souls Day! Today I have felt many sorrows of the heart because of the the continuing events at Standing Rock, The two police officer shootings in Des Moines, Iowa, the burning and desecration of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church Greenville Mississippi. Sometimes there is too much to bear and we find ourselves deep in woe and hearts feeling as though they are being put through a grater. The only solution to these situations is to lay down our hearts in the presence and arms of God. We take time to pray and remember all of our family members who are in any sorry or struggle. We will be using the prayers for the dead and taking time to read and meditate on the lessons for All Souls Day.
We begin our time of holy prayer and reflection with the lighting of candles and smudging.

God as we light these candles in remembrance we take time to prepare ourselves for worship by an act of Christian Smudging with this prayer. We do this in solidarity with all those at Standing Rock.
A Smudging Prayer
Creator, our Father in heaven, we come to you as your children. We confess that we are weak and broken images of you. We pray for the forgiveness and healing you give in Jesus Christ. May his Spirit clean our spirits, minds, hearts, and bodies. We pray that your Holy Spirit will help us to worship in spirit and truth. We pray in the name of Jesus, so that his Spirit will carry our prayers to you. Amen.
We hear, read, and meditate upon the lessons for All Souls Day as we sit in the presence of God and those who reside in the Thin Places.

God as we have prayed the prayers above for the dead help us to remember that we all are formed in your image and likeness and that in the words spoken at Ash Wednesday "Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return" Help us to not fear death but celebrate life. Amen.
We close this night's vigil with the following classic prayers:
Holy God, G_D, Allah, Creator of the world and God of Many names who made us in you image and likeness we pray this night and light our candles in memory and witness to all who have died in any genocide and terrorist act our world has ever known. We light our candles and remember those who have died natural deaths and those who have been victims of (9/11 the Women's holocaust in the Middle Ages, The Native Americans who walked the Trail of Tears and were killed by viruses brought to the New World, We pray for the Armenians who perished and The Great Holocaust that took the lives of 6,000,000 million Jews and others).
