Good Evening Beloved Community!
Happy Self-Care Saturday! I hope everyone is well. For the past 48 hours I have dealt with the deaths of a microwave oven and a water heater that flooded half my family room. Either Mercury is in retrograde or planned obsolescence has reared its ugly head. I think it's the latter. This has tested my faith and resolve for sure. That was yesterday, today thank God I am on even keel and have discovered an ever widening family. This morning I needed to be at church by 7 a.m. to open up for the Lideres Campesinas a Women's Farmworker Advocacy group who were doing a yard sale in our parking lot. These women are now truly sisters to me. They provided me with hospitality in my own church. They even made delicious posole a spicy soup! Comfort food for sure. I was able to nap in the Guild Room early in the morning. I needed it after not having much sleep. During the afternoon, I attended a Social Justice Curriculum and Resource Fair at Santa Maria High School and tabled my first event with Restorative California the organization that I am learning to become a circle facilitator. Why is this important? It is important because today was all about radical love, hospitality, and inclusion. Today I felt that this is Part II of yesterday's blog. It is and we have more kernels of wisdom from Cornel West to meditate upon. BTW I am using a new computer and hopefully the formatting will be more uniform. Today we are using the lessons for the commemoration of Blandina and Her Companions formerly known as the Martyrs of Lyons and the anniversary of a disaster. Lots of pain and hope in these lessons. So let us begin!

We pray this night for the courage to sit down with our many family members who may feel alienation, hatred, misunderstood, and feared. May we practice obedience as your servant St. Benedict and "listen with the ear of the heart!" May our hearts be open this week and be expanding to include more of our family members and even those with whom we find ourselves on the opposite side of the bridge. May we begin to walk towards each other and meet one another step by step until we meet half way and allow for your spirit to empower our hearts and not be afraid to show vulnerability and see you in each other's eyes. May we embrace each other and recognize that the heart beat we hear is from you as is beats out its special cadence of love, mercy, peace, and hope. We pray these and all other prayers this night on holy ground, prayed by your holy family , in the Holy Name of Jesus. Amen.
