Happy Being Thoughtful and Thankful Thursday! I hope all is well. Today I had my appointment with the neurologist. Nothing really new except another test and medication dosages that are being readjusted. Stay tuned for more information around March 26 when we will find out more. Today we take a look at the word freedom as found in our reading from Galatians. Freedom means many things to many people. Here is the definition of freedom from the Merriam Webster Online Dictionary:

We must lean on the words of the Collect for Peace as found in the Book of Common prayer for our words of encouragement and advice:
O God, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom: Defend us, thy humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
So let us remember this day that in serving God through the lives of others we find perfect freedom. Freedom to be CALM (Compassionate, Accepting, Loving, and Merciful). So let us begin our time of prayer, meditation, and worship.

Daughter of Eanfleda (see November 23rd) and Oswy, Elfleda was consecrated to God from infancy in thanksgiving for Oswy’s victory in battle over Penda of Mercia in 654. She was given into the care of Hild at Hartlepool. Eventually she became joint-abbess at Whitby with her mother Eanfleda. A friend of Cuthbert (see March 20th), she met with him on Coquet Island to ask for his insights. For our intercessions tonight we will pray these scripture passages and do this format. Read the verse, pray the verse, pause, and reflect. Take your time and pray as many or as few as you would like.

Our Celtic Moments from the Northumbria Community:
Ebba was the sister of Oswald and Oswy, who were both kings of Northumbria. She was consecrated a nun by Aidan and founded the ‘double’ (i.e. there were both men and women there) monastery at Coldingham, situated on St Abbs’s Head (which was subsequently named after her). Ebba died in the year 683. Bede described her as a ‘pious woman and a handmaid of Christ.’

Today’s Meditation
You need to be generous to yourself in order to receive the love that surrounds you.
You can suffer from a desperate hunger to be loved.
You can search long years in lonely places, far outside yourself.
Yet the whole time, this love is but a few inches away from you.
It is at the edge of your soul, but you have been blind to its presence.
We must remain attentive in order to be able to receive.

Daughter of Eanfleda (see November 23rd) and Oswy, Elfleda was consecrated to God from infancy in thanksgiving for Oswy’s victory in battle over Penda of Mercia in 654. She was given into the care of Hild at Hartlepool. Eventually she became joint-abbess at Whitby with her mother Eanfleda. A friend of Cuthbert (see March 20th), she met with him on Coquet Island to ask for his insights. She was also mediator and advocate on behalf of Wilfrid (see October 12th), and is described by Eddius Stephanus as ‘comforter, and best counsellor of the whole province.’
Holy Spirit, Comforter and Counsellor, teach me Your ways and Your truth, so that I may comfort and counsel any who come to seek my help and encouragement with the same comfort and counsel that come from the heart of God Himself. Amen.
