Good Evening Dear Ones!
Happy Wednesday! It has been 8 days without a phone and I am ok! Life goes on with our without our electronic devices! Today we celebrate Phillips Brooks who wrote "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and Henri Nouwen who wrote many books, most notably THE WOUNDED HEALER. These two spiritual giants hadn't any access to electronic devices and remind us that being off most of the grid is A-OK! I have learned this too. I don't need to be connected so deeply that it becomes addictive. Tonight, or whenever you read this we will enter the presence of God, go deeper into our heart homes, and make time to pay attention to what is going on in our inner beings. This will require that you only have one device powered up at a time while you do this. Tonight we ponder the quotes from Phillips Brooks and Henri Nouwen. During our time to scripture reading you may want to pause, reflect, and journal on the passages. That is why we won't have our usual canticles. So let us begin. Let us set our bodies, minds, spirits, and heart homes on silent mode as we begin with "The Be Stills!"

God of Love we come before you this night as one family in unity and love. We stand before you as your beloved children made in your image and likeness asking that we be empowered to stand with each other when we are the focus of bullying, bigotry, premeditated invisibility, or any action that creates rather than celebrates the diverse humanity that you have created. Help us stand and let our voices be loud, with urgency. Let us take our feet and march together as symbols as one family in courage and steadfast determination to be the change we want to see in the world. As we make vigil and pray this night let us continually remember your call to welcome all and respect the dignity of every stranger in our midst wherever they have come from. Let us also remember to pray for the rich diversity of all nations, faiths, and peoples.

An Analogy from Marriage

Felgild lived in the late seventh century. After Cuthbert died, Ethilwald took his place as hermit on the Inner Farne. Twelve years later, having never left the island, he also died. Felgild was the next hermit to come there, but the rigours of his life in the cell aggravated a swelling on his face. The condition was suddenly healed, allowing him to continue the life of a solitary.
This Compline is dedicated to him because he represents so many whose names we never hear who faithfully follow the example of good men and women of old, continuing their battle against the powers of evil and in their devotion to prayer.
