A Saturday Vigil for Peace

 

Good Evening Dear Ones!

Happy First Saturday in Lent! I hope all is well.Welcome to our weekly Saturday Candlelight and Porch Light Prayer Vigil. Today's vigil will be a special Vigil for Peace. Our lessons are from The Common of Saints : For Peace. 

God we light one candle tonight as we vigil for peace, justice and unity.

Let us add our Metta Prayer!

Lovingkindness (Metta) Prayer

May "all beings" be happy, healthy and whole.

May they have love, warmth and affection.

May they be protected from harm, and free from fear.

May they be alive, engaged and joyful.

May "all beings" enjoy inner peace and ease.

May that peace expand into their world and throughout the entire universe.

This prayer is traditionally done for successively wider circles of caring, with “all beings”replaced appropriately. The first round would be for yourself, then those closest to you, then those who you feel neutral toward, then those with whom you have difficulties, and continuing outward until it includes all beings.

Let us begin with our new mindfulness passages:

As we are together praying for Peace, let us be truly with each other.

This is the time when we become aware of our breathing and grounding ourselves. Let us use the "Peace be stills".

God of all love we come together tonight to accept your call to light our candles and pray. We pray this night to be loving towards one another. We pray this night for guidance in how we can best serve you in the world. We pray that we may be more giving of ourselves to others. We pray that we may be able to be hopeful and hope-filled to this fragile and broken world. We pray that we may shine your light and help people out of the dark places they find themselves in. We pray that we may be supportive in what ever decisions people make,  We pray for the least of these who struggle with the day to day issues of living. We pray that everyone will be lovingly included and not excluded and invisible. We pray that we may be peacemakers and children of God. We pray that we may "Strive for justice, and respect the dignity of every human being"* We pray that we may build bridges and tear down walls. We pray for the courage to speak truth to power. We pray for an end to hatred, violence and terror. We pray that we may use our voices not to hurt but to heal. We pray this night that we all may be one and that we may continue to pray for ___________ and all places where terror and violence have occurred even when the media fails to report it. God you have called us into community with each other and made us into a special kind of family that is based on love. Help us as we pray to light candles and pray for our communities and family members who reside in them.

We light our first candle and pray for our family members we grew up with . We pray that if we have become estranged we may build bridges back in love and familyhood.

We light our second candle and pray for our chosen families that have helped us along the way and that we no longer have to feel alone. We pray that we may continually be CALM (Compassionate, Accepting, Loving, and Merciful)

We light our third candle for our neighborhoods wherever they may be and pray for safety and the courage to get to know our neighbors with love and kindness.

God hear our prayer.

We light our fourth  candle for all those who work for social justice in our communities and pray that their outreach to the community may foster unity and build bridges.

We light our fifth candle for our cities, towns, hamlets, villages, and rural areas that each of these communities may be safe from harm, their leaders may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you  O God. We pray that there may be peace in our streets, neighborhoods, justice in our courts, and social services to meet the needs of all our citizenry. 

God hear our prayer.

We light our sixth candle for our counties and parishes that we may learn  from one another and listen so that we may respect our differences without respect for geography. We pray for all who lead our counties and we pray for all law enforcement and emergency rescue personnel. We pray for justice in our superior courts and that justice may roll down.

God hear our prayer.

We light our seventh candle and pray for our nation and the nations around the world and all the leaders who have been called to govern. We pray that they may govern with empathy, courage,and in the words of the Baptismal Covenant Strive for justice and peace and respect the dignity of every human being. We pray that every citizen in every land may be afforded equality, equity, universal human rights, dignity, respect, and acceptance no matter who they are.

God hear our prayer.

We light our eighth candle for the communities that make up those who are on the margins of society that they may find acceptance, care , love, and inclusion. We pray especially for the least of these and all who are in need of food, clothing, shelter, health care, and financial aid.

We light our ninth candle for all religious communities here and around the world that we may foster understanding, build bridges, and learn to love one another with  the love energy that God  our creator instilled and breathed in us at our birth. May our souls be filled with love so fully that we may see God in each others eyes and connect with all that is holy in our hearts.

We light our tenth candle and pray for unity among all of us who are God's children and family members who were made in God's image and likeness. May we seek to build bridges with listening hearts, listening ears, compassion, acceptance, love, and mercy.

Dear Family of God and Love Let us Light Our Candles tonight and pray that we may all learn to love  each other and see God in the all of our family members nearby and far away. We pray that we may learn to accept the rich diversity of God's creation as a gift and not a hindrance. May we come to seek common ground with love and joy as we get to share our diversity with each other in wonderful and positive ways.

Here are our meditation lessons for this evening with accompanying prayers.

I'm about to give you a plan or suggestions to help us find common ground and connect with one another.

First: make a list of things that we all have in  common.
What makes us the same?
Pray.look to see God in the eyes of all, love, and embrace our family members

Second: leave that list on the table for meditation.
Pray, look, to see God in the eyes of all, love, and embrace our family members.

Third: What are the things, concerns, and situations that divide us? Make another list.
Pray, Look, at yourself , do you see God in your own eyes? let go of all negatives and let God heal all of us from these things.

Fourth: Look at that list and take them off the table and place them in our Worry/ Sabbath Box.
Pray, Look, at yourself , do you see God in your own eyes? Let Go, and be free to look  with love and be with our family members.

Fifth: Keep repeating all the prior steps until all we do are steps one and two and remember to Love God, Neighbor/ Family Member and ourselves.

Let us add this meditation and prayer time and remind ourselves of our inter-connectedness:

Our Family Members, and ultimately ourselves are interconnected. Everything. Interconnected living is what we all must strive for and yes, that means getting back to basics and do these things:

loving the unlovable
feeding the hungry
giving drink to the thirsty, yes that even means ourselves,
sheltering the stranger or homeless family member.
 clothing the naked
caring and loving the ill
taking the shroud off our invisible and marginalized family members.
conserving water, electricity, gas, and plastics. Recycle
providing wound care to the injured
 caring for all creatures great and small
welcoming all and our family members whom we haven't met yet.
being good stewards of the environment
recognizing that any person at any time may become a refugee
respecting everyone and I know it is very hard to love our enemies
showing love, mercy, gratitude, and  kindness at every turn
showing the light of God to the world
thinking in the key of Jesus
thinking before posting and tweeting
a smile often will go the extra mile to  be an ice breaker.
Add your own to this list and realize that we who practice interconnected living, all matter and are precious to God. 

Let us meditate upon the above list and see how this can draw us more deeply into our relationship with God, our family members, and each other. 

God when you created the universe you wove us into being and yet we seem to forget this many times over. May we return to the sense of being truly interconnected and living holy lives. 

God when you created the planet we call our Earthly Home we forgot that we are all made in your image and likeness and in love. We pray that we may return and become loving towards one another and see you in all living things and in our family member's eyes.

God we pray for an end to all the droughts remembering our mental, spiritual, physical, and those that affect the land.

God we pray that we may remember to take care of our bodies and give them proper hydration, food, and sustenance . We pray that this may be extended to all living beings and each other. 

God we pray for all of our family members who may be experiencing spiritual droughts that their hearts,minds, and spirits may be reawakened.

God we pray for peace in our minds and hearts that we may practice peace not only in our lives but in the world. We pray that we may be peace makers, love givers, joy bringers, and hope bearers!

God we pray and remember our family members who are ill, grieving, and in need of love and prayers.

God Help us to accept these periods of drought as a sign of our dependence and interdependence upon you and each other. Help us to know that it is ok to walk and live through these periods of drought and that every step we make through these drought ridden paths are holy ones too. 

Accept these our prayers in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Everything Has Its Time

O God, the source of all being and all joy, let Your blessings be upon us, and fill us with Your love.

Peace for the Disciples

Gracious God we pray that we may learn to use our prophetic voices to speak truth to power with out fear.

God we pray that we may never be silent during times of conflict and let the world know that it is unacceptable to be filled with hate violence in the forms of action and speech, bigotry, racism, and extreme thinking.

God we pray that we may never be silent and stand firm for the protection of our family members who are vulnerable and do not have advocates in their corners.

God we pray that we may never be silent when our leaders go off track and remind them that they are to serve the people and not the interests of lobbies, special interest groups or their own dangerous and self serving agendas.

God we pray that we may never be silent when we need to tell our stories that will benefit and make change in the world.

God we pray that we may never be silent and tell and show our family members we love them.

God we pray that we may never be silent as we serve others and that when you call us to be silent we may listen. Help us to serve the least of these with loving hands, feet, words, and deeds.

God we pray that we may listen to you as we pray for the concerns that you are laying upon our hearts and in our minds especially________________

God we pray that we may listen to our bodies, minds, and spirits that we may seek to keep them healthy.

Walk With Me On Our Journey 

This was from last year's blog and it still speaks!

It is time to focus this weekend's retreat on doable actions as the Beloved Community.

It is time to begin to set our goals that will include one or more of  the following:

A. One personal mission goal between you and God.

B. One mission goal in your neighborhood (That is outside your door and spreads outward like a pebble in the pond. 

C. One goal that you will be doing as part of your faith community if you have one. If you don't have one, here at Walk With Me will have a list of suggestions next week. 

Our weekend toolkit! 

We begin tonight with the above but also our Worry Free Sabbath- Jar, box, and Journal work to let go and prepare our hearts for heart work. 

Blank non-ruled paper, Pens, Markers, Dictionary, Thesaurus, Bible, Journal, Community resource guide. Find out if your local newspaper has a volunteer section. Look for organizations that are aligned with your interests. Each one of us has gifts and skills that are from God and are unique to each one of us.

Spiritual Gifts

12 Now concerning spiritual gifts,[a] brothers and sisters,[b] I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. 3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says “Let Jesus be cursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit.

One Body with Many Members

12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

14 Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot would say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear would say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? And I will show you a still more excellent way.

God we come to you in prayer with spirits that are hungry for a deeper relationship with you and all of our family members. We  pray these prayers based on the list above.

We pray for our family members who are hungry for nourishing and life giving food. May their bodies be filled. We pray for all soup kitchens feeding programs food banks, and pantries.

 We pray for our family members who are in need of clothing. May we take time to give our old and usable clothing away for those that need it.

 We pray for our family members who are in need of shelter this evening and if they need to be out in the cold that they may be safely protected. 

 We pray for our family members who are in need of affection we pray that our prayers may encircle them with a virtual prayer quilt of love and compassion. May they feel our prayers as a holy hug and embrace.

 We pray for our family members who are seeking  relationships and that they may come to know that the most important relationships are with God and themselves.

 We pray for our family members who are  hungering for knowledge that education may be made affordable and that everyone will have places in which to learn and grow.

We pray for our family members who are hungering and thirsting after righteousness.

 We pray for our family members who are hungering for justice,equality human rights, dignity, and respect.

 We pray for our family members who are hungering for CALM (Compassion Acceptance Love and Mercy)

We pray for our family members who are hungering for peace and Peace of Mind.

We pray for our family members who have come to us with their prayer requests remembering especially__________________.
