Welcome to our first Lenten Retreat Weekend on the land of the Chumash. We will be meditating on the Holy Cross. Our Friday's in Lent will feature a variety of litanies and prayers. Our lessons come from the Common of Saints 2! So let us begin!
God we light one candle tonight as we vigil for peace, justice and unity.
Lovingkindness (Metta) Prayer
May "all beings" be happy, healthy and whole.
May they have love, warmth and affection.
May they be protected from harm, and free from fear.
May they be alive, engaged and joyful.
May "all beings" enjoy inner peace and ease.
May that peace expand into their world and throughout the entire universe.
This prayer is traditionally done for successively wider circles of caring, with “all beings”replaced appropriately. The first round would be for yourself, then those closest to you, then those who you feel neutral toward, then those with whom you have difficulties, and continuing outward until it includes all beings.

God you have called us into community with each other and made us into a special kind of family that is based on love. Help us as we pray to light candles and pray for our communities and family members who reside in them.

First: make a list of things that we all have in common.
What makes us the same?

Second: leave that list on the table for meditation.

Third: What are the things, concerns, and situations that divide us? Make another list.
Pray, Look, at yourself , do you see God in your own eyes? let go of all negatives and let God heal all of us from these things.
Fourth: Look at that list and take them off the table and place them in our Worry/ Sabbath Box.
Pray, Look, at yourself , do you see God in your own eyes? Let Go, and be free to look with love and be with our family members.
Fifth: Keep repeating all the prior steps until all we do are steps one and two and remember to Love God, Neighbor/ Family Member and ourselves.

5 When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

We remember the words of St. Francis:

Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life."

Pray for the nation
Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We
humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people
mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with
honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from
violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from
every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people
the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue
with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the
authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home,
and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise
among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts
with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee
to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
God of love we pray that we may be more loving to You, our neighbors/ family members, and ourselves. Grant us courage every day to be more kind, more loving, more peace making, and more compassionate. May we be more, more, more,.......
