Happy Being Thoughtful and Thankful Thursday! I hope all is well. Tonight we prepare for our weekend retreat where we begin to plan to put our prayers into action. Tonight get out your journals or a note pad and write down your prayers in one column and then in another what you as a person might be able to do. It need not be grandiose! Keep it simple just like we are going to do with tonight's blog. We honor tonight Toyohiko Kagawa -Renewer of Society and begin with two of his prayers and then meditate on his quotes:

TEACH ME

O God, teach me how to dispense with unnecessary things.

WHERE YOU DWELL

We are mindful, O God, that You dwell among the lowliest people of the Earth, that You sit on the dust-heap among those in the slums and those in prison, that you are present with the juvenile delinquents and the homeless, that You throng with the beggars seeking bread, that You suffer with the sick, and that You stand in line with the unemployed. May we be mindful that when we forget the unemployed, we forget You.

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and those who are afraid are not perfected in love. We love because God first loved us. If anyone says, I love God, and hates his brother or sister, that person is a liar; for those who do not love their brothers and sisters whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen.1 John 4:18-20

Let us light our candles and be at prayer. Tonight let us pray the Beatitudes and Prayer of St.Francis. Before we do this let us pray for peace in the world and an end to violence and terror. Let us remember the people throughout the world who in the last week have been victimized by terror all over the world. We pray for an end to gun violence and for sensible laws to protect God's children. Let us remember that if we lay down all our weaponry of hate and that includes our voices we will be on the way to safety and learning to love our neighbors who are our family members too.

The Beatitudes
