The Proclamation of John the Baptist
The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
As it is written in the prophet Isaiah,
‘See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way;
the voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
“Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight” ’,
John the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. He proclaimed, ‘The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.’
The Baptism of Jesus
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. God we come to you to acknowledge that no one is invisible and that we as your children each have a special role to play in this fragile and broken world of ours. Help us to know that as COG (Children of God) we may help serve you by serving others by making the right changes we want to see in world. Help us ourselves to be the change we want to see in the world. May we always seek to be CALM (Compassionate, Accepting, Loving, and Merciful) even when the day's news cycles rattle our nerves. A Smudging Prayer
Creator,
our Father in heaven,
we come to you as your children.

God made us each in God's image and likeness. When you slur someone you are slurring God. Holy God we pray for the forgiveness of our misdeeds and sins as we forgive those who have hurt us . Help us to learn to ask for forgiveness and be forgiving so that there may be peace and healing in our heart homes.

Reflection Byte from Last Year! A good reminder!
Bonhoeffer really brings it home to us especially when we read the Gospel According to St. John that was read today. We will see them later in our time of worship. This is a season as with all seasons to remember that Christ is in everyone and that we are called to care for the least of these. Today the least of these in our congregation were three children of God who were homeless, loud, and praising God in an unconventional way. I was hoping we were loving and welcoming to them. I was hoping that we were welcoming to our unsheltered guests who camped out in our parking lot last evening. So let us be radically loving and welcoming to all God's Children. They are to be seen as Christ and God.
