Today is our annual vigil for our community and the communities in which we live and throughout the world. I invite you to light virtual candles and pray and make a holy and sacred circle of love and healing. Let us take time to remember that we are all Beloved Children of God and that all means all and not some.
Let us light our candles,make vigil, pray, and walk in God's light being kind and CALM (Compassionate, Accepting, Loving, and Merciful).

God you have called us into community with each other and made us into a special kind of family that is based on love. Help us as we pray to light candles and pray for our communities and family members who reside in them.
We light our first candle and pray for our family members we grew up with . We pray that if we have become estranged we may build bridges back in love and familyhood.

We light our sixth candle for our counties and parishes that we may learn from one another and listen so that we may respect our differences without respect for geography. We pray for all who lead our counties and we pray for all law enforcement and emergency rescue personnel. We pray for justice in our superior courts and that justice may roll down.

We light our seventh candle and pray for our nation and the nations around the world and all the leaders who have been called to govern. We pray that they may govern with empathy, courage,and in the words of the Baptismal Covenant Strive for justice and peace and respect the dignity of every human being. We pray that every citizen in every land may be afforded equality, equity, universal human rights, dignity, respect, and acceptance no matter who they are.

We light our eighth candle for the communities that make up those who are on the margins of society that they may find acceptance, care , love, and inclusion. We pray especially for the least of these and all who are in need of food, clothing, shelter, health care, and financial aid.

We light our ninth candle for all religious communities here and around the world that we may foster understanding, build bridges, and learn to love one another with the love energy that God our creator instilled and breathed in us at our birth. May our souls be filled with love so fully that we may see God in each others eyes and connect with all that is holy in our hearts.

Cuthbert, a shepherd lad looking after his flock on the Lammermuir hills, had an angelic vision coinciding with the death of Aidan which convinced him that he was meant to follow Christ as surely as the beloved founder of Lindisfarne Abbey. He became a monk at Melrose Abbey, under the guidance of Boisil. Cuthbert later succeeded him as Prior. Later in his life Cuthbert became a dearly-loved bishop at Lindisfarne, from where, until his death in 687, he loved to retreat in solitude to pray and fast on the Farne Islands.

My Lord God,
I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.

Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before the
emperor; and indeed, God has granted safety to all those who are sailing with you.’ So
keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have
been told. But we will have to run aground on some island
In the midst of the tempest Paul’s encouragement and hope contradicted the fear and
despair of his fellow travellers. Our common call to be disciples of Jesus Christ entails
being a sign of contradiction. In a world riven with anxieties, we are called to stand as
witnesses to hope by placing our trust in God’s loving providence. Christian
experience shows us that God writes straight on crooked lines, and we know, against
all odds, we will not drown or be lost. Because God’s steadfast love endures for ever.
Prayer
Almighty God,
our personal suffering leads us to cry out in pain
and we shrink in fear when we experience sickness, anxiety
or the death of loved ones.
Teach us to trust you.
May the churches we belong to be signs of your providential care. Make us true disciples of your Son
who taught us to listen to your word
