Good Evening Beloved Ones!
Happy 5th Sunday in Lent ! I hope that you enjoyed your day of solitude yesterday! I was in the process of writing the blog throughout the day but I was starting to feel major league fatigue and knew that I would have to head for the barn earlier than I had planned. Today I have felt much better. Today and tomorrow let us journal our thoughts on what solitude means for us during this time of crisis and uncertainty. Tonight we have various quotes to meditate and ponder upon. I'm not telling you the theme. Today's readings are a combo from the Daily Office and Eucharistic Lectionary. They have great themes. Themes of bodies, body of Christ, and Resurrection of Lazarus from the Dead. I love these passages especially since they point toward renewal. The questions we need to ponder are these: How are you? Are you feeling any kind of renewal? Can you tell the difference between your busyness outside vs. your busyness indoors? Have you stopped the glorification of busy? These are this week's questions and journaling work. Let us begin by engaging in Thich Nhat Hanh's Breathing Exercises:
“*Breathing in, I know this is my in-breath.
Breathing out, I know this is my out-breath.*
It's very simple, but very effective. When we bring our attention to our in-breath and our out-breath, we stop thinking of the past; we stop thinking of the future; and we begin to come home to ourselves...Don't think this practice doesn't apply to you. If we don't go home to ourselves, we can't be at our best and serve the world in the best way... Our quality of being is the foundation for the quality of our actions.
*Breathing in, I'm aware of my whole body.
Breathing out, I'm aware of my whole body.*
Breathing mindfully brings us back to our bodies. We have to acknowledge our bodies first because tension and suffering accumulate in the body. Breathing in this way, we create a kind of family reunion between mind and body. The mind becomes an embodied mind.
...We can't do our best if we don't know to release the tension and pain in ourselves.

Breathing out, I'm aware of the tension in my body.*
When we look at the suffering around us, at poverty, violence, or climate change, we may want to solve these things immediately. We want to do something. But to do something effectively and ethically, we need to be our best selves in order to be able to handle the suffering...

Breathing out, I release the painful feeling.*
This is a nonviolent and gentle way to help our bodies release tension and pain. It is possible to practice mindful breathing in order to produce a feeling of joy, a feeling of happiness. When we are well-nourished and know how to create joy, then we are strong enough to handle the deep pain within ourselves and the world.”

God of Justice,
You have created us equal, yet we’ve built a society that thrives on inequality.

The Death of Lazarus

Jesus the Resurrection and the Life

Lord of the Sabbath, on the seventh day the consummation of Your creative activity was rest, not as an escape from the work you had done, but to bask in its completion. Our desire to pursue leisure is part of what it means to be made in your image and can only find its true fulfilment in a sense of Your presence. We confess that too often leisure has simply become the means of self-gratification, and rather than drawing us to You is seen as something that tempts us away. Help us to use our leisure wisely, and as we recognise that one individual�s recreation is often the cause of toil for another, so we pray for all those who work in the leisure industry. May our pursuit of pleasure not leave them un-noticed or taken for granted, may we act in a way that makes their work easier and not more difficult.
