Good Evening Dear Family of Love!

Happy Self-Care Saturday! It is extremely warm here in Santa Maria, and that is why I'm writing to you early on Saturday. Today I participated in a review and revision of our local Democratic Platform and discovered many things and one of them being I felt like I was reading the Bible! Yes the Bible! Not to mention what we are called to do when we make our baptismal vows. The platform speaks about human rights, women's rights, LGBTQ rights, caring for the homeless, feeding the hungry, providing shelter, being good stewards to the environment, being transparent in leadership, caring for the least of these, not to mention welcoming the stranger, and providing sanctuary for those who live in fear. I kept hearing the words from our Baptismal Covenant "Strive for justice, and respect the dignity of every human being!". Jesus makes it clear that we must care for the least of these in Matthew 25, Follow the precepts in the Sermon on the Mount, just to name a few. Our prophets spoke of a just world Micah reminds us of "To do justice, love, mercy and walk humbly with God", Isaiah speaks of "Binding up the Brokenhearted", "Being a repairer of the Breach", , "Turning swords into ploughsharses and spears into pruning hooks", and even in Leviticus calls us to Welcome the stranger, and care for the resident alien in our midst. Which all of these boil down to loving God, Our neighbor, and ourselves, along with loving our enemy and doing good to those who hate us! Sifting this down further it means we must include all and practice CALM principles be (compassionate, accepting, loving and merciful). Today we have the privilege of celebrating the commemoration of the Martyrs of New Guinea:Today's retreat is responding to the call to walk the walk and talk the talk when we follow Jesus. Dear ones we do not get to compartmentalize this call it goes wherever we go and whatever we are doing every nano second of the day.

THE MARTYRS OF NEW GUINEA
(2 SEP 1942)

New Guinea (also called Irian), one of the world's largest islands, has a difficult terrain that discourages travel between districts, Consequently, it is home to many isolated tribes, with many different cultures and at least 500 languages. Christian missionaries began work there in the 1860's, but proceeded slowly.

When World War II threatened Papua and New Guinea, it was obvious that missionaries of European origin were in danger. There was talk of leaving. Bishop Philip Strong wrote to his clergy: "We must endeavour to carry on our work. God expects this of us. The church at home, which sent us out, will surely expect it of us. The universal church expects it of us. The people whom we serve expect it of us. We could never hold up our faces again if, for our own safety, we all forsook Him and fled, when the shadows of the Passion began to gather around Him in His spiritual and mystical body, the Church in Papua."
They stayed. Almost immediately there were arrests. Eight clergymen and two laymen were executed "as an example" on September 2, 1942. In the next few years, many Papuan Christians of all Churches risked their own lives to care for the wounded.

We begin our prayer time with the collect of the day for the Martyrs of New Guinea:

Almighty God, we remember before you this day the blessed martyrs of New Guinea, who, following the example of their Savior, laid down their lives for their friends; and we pray that we, who honor their memory, may imitate their loyalty and faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

God when you called us into being, you made us in your image and likeness and that we were and are to be the Lights of the World help us we pray as we light these our candles tonight to shine our love lights into places where there is darkness. Give us strength we pray that we may have courage to shine those lights where we normally wouldn't see ourselves going. We pray for all of our family members who are in dangerous and terrifying places. We pray for an end to violence, terror, bullying, abuse, and degradation and division. We pray for a world renewed by peace, love, mercy, and clean water and a healthy environment. We pray for all of us who are brokenhearted and who need to have our wounds dressed and tenderly cared for. We pray that we may be the shoulders to lean upon and cry and the soft place in which to fall and feel safe. Give us the courage to be this place even to the least of these, our enemies, and those who hate us. God of all Compassion, Acceptance, Love and Mercy we offer our additional prayers and thanksgivings remembering_________________. God we lay these our prayers, and thanksgivings at the feet and arms of your Son Jesus. We also remember that The light and love of Christ in me recognizes the Light and love of Christ in You. Amen.

A Song of True Motherhood

God chose to be our mother in all things *

A Smudging Prayer

Creator,

our Father in heaven,

Almighty God, in giving us dominion over things on earth,

you made us fellow workers in your creation: Give us wisdom

and reverence so to use the resources of nature, that no one

may suffer from our abuse of them, and that generations yet

to come may continue to praise you for your bounty; through

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For commerce and industry

Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ in his earthly life

shared our toil and hallowed our labor: Be present with your

people where they work; make those who carry on the industries

and commerce of this land responsive to your will; and give

to us all a pride in what we do, and a just return for our labor;

through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with

you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for

For Social Justice

Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so

move every human heart [and especially the hearts of the

people of this land], that barriers which divide us may

crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease; that our

divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace;

For Social Justice

Almighty God, who created us in your own image: Grant us

grace fearlessly to contend against evil and to make no peace

with oppression; and, that we may reverently use our freedom,

help us to employ it in the maintenance of justice in our

communities and among the nations, to the glory of your holy

Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with

For Social Service

Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son came not to be served

but to serve: Bless all who, following in his steps, give

themselves to the service of others; that with wisdom,

patience, and courage, they may minister in his Name to the

suffering, the friendless, and the needy- for the love of him

The Judgment of the Nations
