Don't be afraid to accept changes in plans! God may have something elsein mind! Honor what God is telling you and your body to do today!

Good Evening Beloved Community,

Happy Self-care Saturday! Just when I thought I had my day figured out, body did a surprise turn around and I needed to take time for me. I realized that it was necessary to not try and do the things I had planned on doing but to stay home and watch the livestreaming of this year's Trinity Institute and spend time listening to many wonderful voices of faith and in the social justice movement.  Their presentations  gave me lots to ponder and get me ready for our parish's story day next week and my training in restorative practices. So I guess I was meant to stay home and ponder Values in Action and the state of what we value as children of God.  What values are important to you? Is being an Energizer Bunny your value when your body is telling you stop, rest, and renew and don't be all things to all people? What are your core values? This is what we are going to ponder in the pre-Lenten and Lenten season. Values make up how we as people of faith and Children of God respond to others and our community at large. In today's lessons we find ourselves looking at Jesus sending out the twelve with a lot of guidlelines. Could we do these things? What values are intrinsic and extrinsic when we are given rules like the ones in the Gospel of Mark? Let us ponder this Gospel lesson until tomorrow's blog. Tonight we are going to have our opening sentences from Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Rosa Parks.
So let us begin!

Peace be still.
Peace be.
Peace.

Peace be still.
Peace be.
Peace.

Peace be still.
Peace be.
Peace.

Light and peace in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Let us light our candles and meditate upon God's God News and be at prayer.

Dear Ones It is time once again to lay aside your burdens and join with our family members in our daily Virtual Candlelight Prayer Vigil. Let us light our candles and be at prayer and pray that we may be sources of comfort and welcome wherever we may be. We pray for an end to division and violence and that love and peace may prevail the world over. We pray this night for our family members who are homeless, hungry, and ill clad that they may find safe shelter, nourishing food, and warm clothing to protect them from harm from the cold. We pray that love may infect our hearts with a spirit of comfort and welcome.

O Gracious Light Phos hilaron

O gracious Light,
pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

Psalm 134

Ecce nunc

1
Behold now, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, *

you that stand by night in the house of the Lord.

2
Lift up your hands in the holy place and bless the Lord; *

the Lordwho made heaven and earth bless you out of Zion.

Psalm 96:1-7

Cantate Domino

1
Sing to the Lord a new song; *

sing to the Lord, all the whole earth.

2
Sing to the Lord and bless his Name; *

proclaim the good news of his salvation from day to day.

3
Declare his glory among the nations *

and his wonders among all peoples.

4
For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; *

he is more to be feared than all gods.

5
As for all the gods of the nations, they are but idols; *

but it is the Lord who made the heavens.

6
Oh, the majesty and magnificence of his presence! *

Oh, the power and the splendor of his sanctuary!

7
Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples; *

ascribe to the Lord honor and power.

Acts 1:1-9 (NRSV)

In the first book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus did and taught from the beginning until the day when he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While staying with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. “This,” he said, “is what you have heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?” He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.

Psalm 98:1-4

1
Sing to the Lord a new song, *

for he has done marvelous things.

2
With his right hand and his holy arm *

has he won for himself the victory.

3
The Lord has made known his victory; *

his righteousness has he openly shown in the sight of the nations.

4
He remembers his mercy and faithfulness to the house of Israel, *

and all the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God.

Mark 6:7-13 (NRSV)

Jesus called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

The Song of Mary Magnificat

Luke 1:46-55

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in you, O God my Savior, *
for you have looked with favor on your lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed: *
you, the Almighty, have done great things for me,
and holy is your name.
You have mercy on those who fear you *
from generation to generation.
You have shown strength with your arm *
and scattered the proud in their conceit,
Casting down the mighty from their thrones *
and lifting up the lowly.
You have filled the hungry with good things *
and sent the rich away empty.
You have come to the help of your servant Israel, *
for you have remembered your promise of mercy,
The promise made to our forebears, *
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Anskar, Archbishop of Hamburg, Missionary to Denmark and Sweden, 865, Rite Two

Almighty and everlasting God, you sent your servant Anskar as an apostle to the people of Scandinavia, and enabled him to lay a firm foundation for their conversion, though he did not see the results of his labors: Keep your Church from discouragement in the day of small things, knowing that when you have begun a good work you will bring it to a fruitful conclusion; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayers in remembrance of the Dorchester Chaplains
Holy God, you inspired the Dorchester chaplains to be models of steadfast sacrificial love in a tragic and terrifying time: Help us to follow their example, that their courageous ministry may inspire chaplains and all who serve, to recognize your presence in the midst of peril; through Jesus Christ our Savior, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Christ Has No Body. Christ has no body but yours, No hands, no feet on earth but yours, Yours are the eyes with which he looks. Compassion on this world, Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good, Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world. -St. Teresa of Avila
In the house made of dawn.

In the story made of dawn.
On the trail of dawn.
O, Talking God.
His feet, my feet, restore.
His limbs, my limbs, restore.
His body, my body, restore.
His voice, my voice, restore.
His plumes, my plumes, restore.
With beauty before him, with beauty before me.
With beauty behind him, with beauty behind me.
With beauty above him, with beauty above me.
With beauty below him, with beauty below me.
With beauty around him, with beauty around me.
With pollen beautiful in his voice with pollen beautiful in my voice.
It is finished in beauty.
It is finished in beauty.
In the house of evening light.
From the story made of evening light.
On the trail of evening light.

Matthew 5New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Sermon on the Mount; The Beatitudes

When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the [a]mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying,
[b]Blessed are the [c]poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
“Blessed are the [d]gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
10 “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

A Prayer attributed to St. Francis

Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is
hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where
there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where
there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where
there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to
be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is
in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we
are born to eternal life. Amen.

Matthew 5:14-16 New International Version (NIV)

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Nunc Dimittis
Lord, you now have set your servant free *
to go in peace as you have promised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior, *
whom you have prepared for all the world to see:
A Light to enlighten the nations, *
and the glory of your people Israel.

Visit this place, O Lord, and drive far from it all snares of the enemy; let your holy angels dwell with us to preserve us in peace; and let your blessing be upon us always; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The almighty and merciful Lord, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless us and keep us. Amen.
