Good Evening Dear Family!
Today we make vigil and pray for all parents and children who are finding themselves in dangerous living situations. We remember especially all refugees and asylum seekers who are being forced to leave their homes and livelihoods because of being in danger, oppression, and any kind of living condition that keeps them safe. It isn't an easy time for many of our family members who are living in this fragile, dangerous, and broken world. I especially want to remember the little ones who are God's tender souls. Tonight I want to do a brief education on immigration terms just to help our minds be focused in the right way. Today here are our two terms to ponder! From (ASTHO.org)
Asylee:
An alien in the United States or at a port of entry who is found to be unable or unwilling to return to his or
her country of nationality, or to seek the protection of that country because of persecution or a wellfounded
fear of persecution. Persecution or the fear thereof must be based on the individual’s:
o race,
o religion,
o nationality,
o membership in a particular social group, or
o political opinion.
Asylees are eligible to adjust to Lawful Permanent Resident status after one year of continuous presence
in the United States. These immigrants are limited to 10,000 adjustments per fiscal year. Asylees residing
in the country before their asylum application is accepted do not have the assistance of refugee
settlement agencies and are typically ineligible for almost all federal assistance.
Refugee:
A person who is outside his or her country of nationality who is unable or unwilling to return to that
country because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution. Persecution or the fear thereof
must be based on the individual’s

As we await the beginning of Advent let us find within ourselves the courage to speak truth to power and not be silent. Jesus' cousin John the Baptist knew how to use use his voice to proclaim the coming of Jesus and Jesus did the same when he saw an injustice happening. Let us us this time tonight to be at prayer and pray for courage to be the Light, be a Voice, be a Peacemaker, Be a Child of God, Be the one who speaks up when someone won't.
Let us spend time in silence and prepare ourselves to be God's voice in a broken world.
God of justice we pray that we may have courage to speak truth to power.
God of compassion we pray that we may love others not just in our words but in our deeds.
God of kindness we pray that we may use our voices to heal, comfort, and lovingly support.
God of peace we pray that we may use our voices as your beloved children to make peace and not wage war in this world.
God of all people, we pray that we may be the voices who seek to protect and serve the most vulnerable of our family members.
God of justice we pray that we may we have the courage to Stand Up, Step up, and Speak Up for all of your children who need us to act and not be silent.

Monday – The Aidan Compline
Aidan came to Lindisfarne from Iona in the year 635 at the request of King Oswald. He was a man of deep prayer who meditated on the words of Scripture, equipping himself in quiet for an active and highly effective apostolate. He remained at Lindisfarne for 16 years. In 651, Aidan was taken ill at Bamburgh and died. Cuthbert, who was a that moment looking after his flock of sheep on the Lammermuir hills, saw a vision of angels taking Aidan’s soul to heaven.

Celtic Advent: November 16th
This was the traditional beginning of monastic fasting and preparation for the feast of Christmas, reflecting Lent in lasting for forty days. We seek to prepare the way for the Lord to come right to the centre of our lives. Every valley and pot-hole should be filled in, every mountain and hill levelled and every obstacle removed. The mountains are the wrongs we do, and the pot-holes are the good things we fail to do.
It is said that the door to the stable where the Christ-child has been born is very low – and only those who kneel find access. Being ready for Christmas should mean that our thoughts are focused not just on letters, cards, food and drink, and presents, but on repentance, humility and interior ‘house-cleaning’. The more we prepare in this way, the less we will be overwhelmed by the commercialisation of Christmas.
Prepare a way for the Lord!
Show me, Lord Jesus, how I may best prepare to celebrate Your birth into this world. Show me those things I need to repent of, that I may find Your forgiveness. Show me how to avoid the greed and selfishness of this season and focus on what is truly essential. Amen
