Day 2 of Making vigil and praying for the unity of our nation and the world: Today's word is Ubuntu!






Good Evening Beloved Community!

Happy Monday and Election Eve here in the U.S. If you don't live in the United States, please pray for us in the coming hours and days! We will be making vigil and praying for the unity of our nation and the world. Last evening our phrase was E Pluribus Unum- Out of Many, One, tonight our phrase and key word for meditation is Ubuntu -"I am, because you are". Every evening we pray the poem In Lak'Ech by Luis Valdez as a reminder of this oneness. Tonight we place that poem/prayer here as a reminder that we are called to be one, united, people, and beloved community so let us begin:

God when you called us into being, you made us in your image and likeness and that we were and are to be the Lights of the World help us we pray as we light these our candles tonight to shine our love lights into places where there is darkness. Give us strength we pray that we may have courage to shine those lights where we normally wouldn't see ourselves going. We pray for all of our family members who are in dangerous and terrifying places. We pray for an end to violence, terror, bullying, abuse, and degradation and division. We pray for a world renewed by peace, love, mercy, and clean water and a healthy environment. We pray for all of us who are brokenhearted and who need to have our wounds dressed and tenderly cared for. We pray that we may be the shoulders to lean upon and cry and the soft place in which to fall and feel safe. Give us the courage to be this place even to the least of these, our enemies, and those who hate us. God of all Compassion, Acceptance, Love and Mercy we offer our additional prayers and thanksgivings remembering_________________. God we lay these our prayers, and thanksgivings at the feet and arms of your Son Jesus. We also remember that The light and love of Christ in me recognizes the Light and love of Christ in You. One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu - the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can't exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can't be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality - Ubuntu - you are known for your generosity. We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole World. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.

Creator,
our Father in heaven,
we come to you as your children.
We confess that we are weak and broken images of you.
We pray for the forgiveness and healing you give in Jesus Christ.
May his Spirit clean our spirits, minds, hearts, and bodies.
We pray that your Holy Spirit
 will help us to worship in spirit and truth.

so that his Spirit will carry our prayers to you. Amen.

Here is tonight's and tomorrow's pledge that we all must take and pray each day not just on the eve of 9/11 or the day of 9/11 or the day after.

We pledge this night that we will cease to participate in all actions that will hurt and harm.
We pledge this night that we will love all of our family members without fear or condition.
We pledge that we will seek to make peace in this fragile and broken world.
We pledge that we ill educate ourselves more fully on faith communities that are unfamiliar.
We pledge that we will pray daily for all who are in harms way.
We pledge to help all refugees, the strangers, victims of human trafficking, abuse, and all children who are precious and made in God's Image and likeness.
[We pledge to remember all of our family members who lost their lives on 9/11 and their family members who continue to grieve.]

All that I ask from you tonight, tomorrow, and always is that we take time to remember in our private ways. This isn't a time for all out patriotism it is a time for unity in our nation and among nations and all of our family members.

A Prayer attributed to St. Francis

Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is

In Times of Conflict

God we light our candles tonight as we pray and give thanks for our family members where there is much division, hatred, and fear. We pray that as we pray this list of these our family members we may come up with our own list of family members with whom we find ourselves divided and whom we should work towards inclusion, universal human rights, equality, equity, and equal protection under the law for all God's Children. Dear God we pray on this the penultimate election day eve that we may be good citizens and take time to study the issues and vote. We who have voted make vigil and pray for those who haven't and that they may remember the Matthew 25 Pledge:

Aidan came to Lindisfarne from Iona in the year 635 at the request of King Oswald. He was a man of deep prayer who meditated on the words of Scripture, equipping himself in quiet for an active and highly effective apostolate. He remained at Lindisfarne for 16 years. In 651, Aidan was taken ill at Bamburgh and died. Cuthbert, who was a that moment looking after his flock of sheep on the Lammermuir hills, saw a vision of angels taking Aidan’s soul to heaven.
