Comfortable words in an uncomfortable time!






Good Evening All!

Happy Sunday! I''m sorry there wasn't a blog yesterday. My neighborhood was inundated with loud noises from 4th of July fireworks. Tonight let us meditate upon these sentences commonly called the Comfortable Words as found in Holy Eucharist Rite I of the Book of Common Prayer: 

Hear the Word of God to all who truly turn to him.

Come unto me, all ye that travail and are heavy laden, and
I will refresh you.    Matthew 11:28

God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son,
to the end that all that believe in him should not perish, but
have everlasting life.    John 3:16

This is a true saying, and worthy of all men to be received,
that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
1 Timothy 1:15

If any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous; and he is the perfect offering for our

God of compassion, you have reconciled us in Jesus Christ who is our peace: Enable us to live as Jesus lived, breaking down walls of hostility and healing enmity. Give us grace to make peace with those from whom we are divided, that, forgiven and forgiving, we may ever be one in Christ; who with you and the Holy Spirit reigns for ever, one holy and undivided Trinity. Amen.

Let us light our candles and be at prayer!

God we are privileged to come into your sanctuary each night to pray and give thanks and share community with one another. We are here to light candles to provide a pathway out of the darkness in our lives and those of others. We pray and give thanks for all the blessings you bestow upon us each and every day. We pray for our families who give us strength and emotional support. We pray this night that we may open our hearts with love to all the fragile ones and yes God we know that our enemies and those who hate us are fragile in a different way. We pray that they may turn away from violence and hate and that they may learn to love, listen, and seek to come together in unity. We know that fear triggers hate and violent action. We pray that everyone receives a good education where they live not only in school but in their faith communities so they may learn what is truly taught and not made up to incite violence, disunity, and hatred.  We pray that violence of any kind may cease and that the only radicalization that takes place is that of Compassion, Acceptance, Love, Mercy and Hospitality where unity is fostered and brought into being. We pray this night for the least of these and that we may continue to seek your face in all of our family members. We pray these our prayers as we lift up our candles in a mirror and say "The Light of Christ in Me, recognizes the Light of Christ in you!' Let us be the light to your fragile and broken world and in the warmth of the light may it represent love in all of its hues and actions. May we feel its love energy radiating in all, through all, and to all. Amen.



THE LIGHTING OF THE CANDLES
Lest we forget the great traditions of freedom and faith which are the heritage of humanity; lest we forget the pioneers, the statesmen, the bridge builders, the artists; and lest we forget You, the God of our fore bears who is our God also:
We light this candle of remembrance.
For the hope of a better world, in which righteousness and peace shall prevail among the people of the earth, and to create which is the task of the generations in which we stand, as well as for the courage and faith we shall need if we are to carry on this unfinished work:
We light this candle of consecration.
May the flame upon the altar of free faith shine in our hearts al ways, reminding us of the dark places to which we may carry light and strengthening us in every moment of doubt and discouragement with unwavering faith in You whom we serve and whose we are.




Let us pray and respond with these words: I see the face of Jesus in all our family members and I love them.

God we pray for our incarcerated family members.

God we pray for all our family members who have been victims of crime. Help us to be their soft places in which to fall and a gentle shoulder to lean on. We also extend this to our family members who have committed crimes as well.
 I see the face of Jesus in all our family members and I love them

God we pray for all our family members who serve in correctional facilities that they may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
 I see the face of Jesus in all our family members and I love them.

God we pray for all our family members who have been victims of police violence and who have lost their lives. You may speak their names now______
 I see the face of Jesus in all our family members and I love them.

For Prisons and Correctional Institutions

Lord Jesus, for our sake you were condemned as a criminal:
Visit our jails and prisons with your pity and judgment.
Remember all prisoners, and bring the guilty to repentance
and amendment of life according to your will, and give them
hope for their future. When any are held unjustly, bring them
release; forgive us, and teach us to improve our justice.
Remember those who work in these institutions; keep them
humane and compassionate; and save them from becoming
brutal or callous. And since what we do for those in prison,
O Lord, we do for you, constrain us to improve their lot. All
this we ask for your mercy's sake. Amen.

For the Oppressed

Look with pity, O heavenly Father, upon the people in this
land who live with injustice, terror, disease, and death as
their constant companions. Have mercy upon us. Help us to
eliminate our cruelty to these our neighbors. Strengthen those
who spend their lives establishing equal protection of the law
and equal opportunities for all. And grant that every one of
us may enjoy a fair portion of the riches of this land; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers of July 4, 2018

God we pray for all of our family members who are incarcerated and do not have family or friends to visit and advocate for them. Guide us with courage to be their family O God.

God we pray for safety in all correctional facilities that all people who are incarcerated may receive just and proper care and not become victims of violence.  Let us raise our voices for those who are afraid to speak out for themselves and others in correctional facilities.

God we pray for those who work in correctional facilities that they may remember that they must respect everyone's dignity without discrimination and hatred.

God we pray for all women in correctional facilities that they may receive proper health and hygiene care and safety. We pray that we may become their voices if they have been abused and silenced. 

God we pray for all youth who are in juvenal hall and correctional facilities that they may be educated and given a time when they may be able to lead new lives on the outside and become productive citizens.

God we pray for all who are being paroled that they may be given the necessary life skill set to live productive lives. We remember especially those who have mental health and drug related issues.

God we pray that we have courage to advocate for all who are homeless and have been in jail. 

God we pray for new and exciting programs that will mean better criminal justice reform that will not be one size fits all.

God help us to forgive those who have caused us harm and that we may be able to seek out mental health care after crimes that have been committed against us. 

God we pray these prayers in the Name of Jesus of Nazareth who was and is the first Criminal Justice Reformer. Amen.

Prayers of July 3, 2018

We pray for all prisoners who have been afforded the necessary legal council and protection. 

We pray that the prison systems may be places of rehabilitation and not places of monetary gain. Help us O God, to be advocates for those who are in need of our help who are incarcerated. 

We give thanks for Stephen Ministries, P.R.I.S.M. , Kairos Ministries, Restorative Justice Circles, and all groups who minister in jails and correctional facilities.

 We pray especially this night for all who are in detention by I.C.E.  We remember all families who are forced to live in cages and have not been afforded legal council, due process, and humane treatment.

We pray for all political prisoners who have have been afforded dignity and human rights.

We pray for all who work in the prison and correctional system that they may be fair, impartial, and be guided by civil, human, and Constitutional rights. We pray and remember the Miranda rights as a reminder:

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to have an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you by the court. With these rights in mind, are you still willing to talk with me about the charges against you?

We pray for all who are on death row that they may live out their lives in confinement and that there may be an end to the death penalty.

We pray for an end to all forms of profiling that justice may be served fairly without bias and gun violence. 

God we pray these words of St. Francis.

Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is
hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where
there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where
there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where
there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to
be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is
in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we
are born to eternal life. Amen.

Loving God, we thank you for the gift of life in all its diversity and beauty. Lord Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, we praise you that you came to find the lost, to free the oppressed, to heal the sick, and to convert the self-centered. Holy Spirit, we rejoice that you breathe in the life of the world and are poured out into our hearts. As we live in the Spirit, may we also walk in the Spirit. Grant us faith and courage to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Jesus: becoming pilgrims of justice and peace in our time. For the blessing of your people, the sustaining of the earth, and the glory of your name. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Romans 7:15-25a

So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. Beside the still waters we give thanks for the lives who have entered eternal joy today and those who are in the midst of transitioning from this earthly life into a heavenly one.


Veni Sancte Spiritus: Come Holy Spirit!  Comfort the dying with your enfolding and loving spirit. 
Beside the still waters we pray for all who are lost, lonely, alone and seeking companionship. We pray that our hearts may be stilled as we wait. We pray that we may not lose heart and live boldly,yet gently alone.

Jesus, give us courage to help abolish laws that are unjust and do not respect the dignity of every human being.Lead us and guide us in the way of  Compassion, Acceptance, Love, and Mercy ,Brother Jesus.

Jesus, give us the courage to remove the blinders that are preventing us from seeing you in all of our family members.Lead us and guide us in the way of Compassion, Acceptance, Love, and Mercy ,Brother Jesus.

Jesus, give us courage to engage in restorative life practices where we may learn to heal and be both the forgiven and the forgiving. Lead us and guide us in the way of  Compassion, Acceptance, Love, and Mercy, Brother Jesus.

Jesus we pray for all who are lost in the prison system that they may find the legal help that they need and be restored to their communities in which they live.

Good Night Beloved Family! Have a blessed and restful night. Remember this God is Love. Love is God. Your Neighbor is Love. Love is your Neighbor. You are love. Love is you! The hardest one is Loving your Enemy as you love yourself! I love you and give thanks to God for you this day and always.
