Easter 2.0 : Resurrection experiences made especially for you with Love by the God of Love who is Love!

Good Evening Dear Ones!

Happy Second Sunday of Easter or as I like to call it Easter 2.0 ! For the past few days we have been given the various accounts  of Jesus' post resurrection appearances. Today we get to see Jesus appear to the Apostles who were hiding out in a safe house out of fear. Today we meet tactile Thomas who needed to experience the risen Christ tactilely. As I said last week in on of the blogs or was trying to, the Risen Christ is a feast for our senses. Mary Magdalene -represents sound and hearing when Jesus calls her name, "Mary!", our friends on the Road to Emmaus represent -visual/ sight as he was known to them "In the breaking of the bread!"and now we have Thomas who represents - touch - when he actually experiences feeling and seeing Jesus' wounds.These are senses that we use every day. I'm sure we take each sense for granted but these disciples certainly didn't when they experienced the risen Christ. Every person we meet must be seen as the risen Christ and we must not be afraid to listen, touch, and have our eyes fixed upon them. Today in church our usual family members who are homeless weren't there. I hope they will return they are so important to us and are a reminder who Christ is and how we are to be like Christ. Jesus was an excellent teacher because he really tailored each of his post Resurrection experiences to each person like an IEP (Individual Education Plan). We all have different learning styles: Visual (spatial):You prefer using pictures, images, and spatial understanding. Aural (auditory-musical): You prefer using sound and music. Verbal (linguistic): You prefer using words, both in speech and writing. Physical (kinesthetic): You prefer using your body, hands and sense of touch. (From Learning Styles Online)
 I think God reminds us that everyone's experience with the Risen Christ will be like this:

Dear ones, let us not take our  senses or learning styles for granted. God may be speaking to us through them.  Let us continue to pray for an end to hate crimes, violence, and all who have been killed or injured. We pray also for their families, friends, communities, worship communities. Let us make our hearts part of the Red Door Campaign. More on that tomorrow. So let us spend time together and see what God brings to us in our midst tonight. I'll bet it has to do with making us more and leading us to be more CALM ( Compassionate, Accepting, Loving , and Merciful). It's all about love and being the Beloved Community.

Holy God,as we pray and light more candles let us pray that we may truly and fully become the loving Family of God. God we know that it is time. We know that this journey into family hood won't be easy but we must take time to lay down our, rage, fear, anger, suspicion, hatred, bigotry, terror, and all that seeks to divide us. Give us we pray courage to learn to love one another as Jesus first loved us. Help us we pray to realize that we are one family and that whatever our race, color, creed, gender, and sexual orientation may be we are made in your image and likeness O, God. Tonight we pray for safety in our cities, towns, counties, states, and nations. We pray for all of our family members nearby and far away who have been affected by violence, abuse, bullying, and degradation this day. We pray for their safety and that you'll wrap your loving and holy arms of protection around them. We pray for the least of these who lack clean water, safe and permanent shelter, nourishing food, and warm clothing. Help us to walk the walk and talk the talk and spread your Gospel of Love to this fragile and broken world. John 20:19-31

I NEED YOU -by Howard Thurman

I need Your sense of time. Always I have an underlying anxiety about things. Sometimes I am in a hurry to achieve my ends and am completely without patience. It is hard for me to realize that some growth is slow, that not all processes are swift. I cannot discriminate between what takes time to develop and what can be rushed because my sense of time is dulled. O to understand the meaning of perspective that I may do all things with a profound sense of leisure of time.

I need Your sense of order. The confusion of the details of living is sometimes overwhelming. The little things keep getting in my way, providing ready-made excuses for failure to do and be what I know I ought to do and be. Much time is spent on things that are not very important while significant things are put in an insignificant place in my scheme of order. I must unscramble my affairs so that my life will become order. O God, I need Your sense of order.

I need Your sense of the future. Teach me to know that life is ever on the side of the future. Keep alive in me the future look, the high hope. Let me not be frozen either by the past or the present. Grant me, O Patient One, Your sense of the future without which all life would sicken and die.

Jesus, banish all those who have hardness of heart and who do not know how to love family members who differ from themselves.

Jesus help us when we need to be focused and not distracted this week. Give us energy and banish fatigue. 

Jesus we pray for all those who have chronic illnesses of body, mind, and spirit.

Jesus we lift up these our prayers to you in your most holy name. Amen.

Hebrews 10:35-11:1

John 20:24-29

Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with the other disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”

A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”
