It's Retreat Time!

Good Evening Dear Family!

Happy weekly retreat weekend! I hope everyone is ready for our first weekend retreat in May! These may retreats are designed to get us outside and with our communities.  It's time to see and experience God's Cathedral of Life and get to know our neighbors and neighborhoods. Soon we will have our Rogation days and this is in preparation for this special time of year. This evening we have a treat in the lessons. Daniel takes us to the court of King Nebuchadnezzar and the trials and tribulations of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Use Daniel as our time of breathing and rest. Check out the words in bold and use those as your journaling time if you so desire. So let us begin and set our hearts and minds to retreat mode. Don't forget to do your Worry Free Sabbath (Box, Jar, Journal) before you enter into a time of silent reflection.

It is time for our daily Virtual Candlelight Prayer Vigils. Tonight Let us pray for our country that there will be an end to the terrible divisiveness ,hatred, and extremism that is affecting it. We pray that we may once again find common ground and a return of common decency. We continue to pray that we become bridge builders and peacemakers. We pray that we my be united as one family in CALM (Compassion, acceptance, Love, and mercy) Purpose, for the good and benefit of all. We pray that we may acknowledge our dependence upon each other and every living thing and that we may practice conservation of God's Cathedral of life. 

Tonight let us love one another and extend our arms of love to one another and our hands in friendship. We are truly family and sacred beings made in the image and likeness of God. Every day is sacred even when we don't feel like it is!  So in the silence of tonight's meditation may we pledge to ourselves and one another that we are family, we love one another, accept each other where we are and who we are, and that we will never hate or harm each other in any way.  Tonight and if you are reading this tomorrow, I'm issuing a call for all of us to be the holy and loving children of God.

These pay no heed to you, O king. They do not serve your gods and they do not worship the golden statue that you have set up.’

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in furious rage commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought in; so they brought those men before the king. 14Nebuchadnezzar said to them, ‘Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods and you do not worship the golden statue that I have set up? 15Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, drum, and entire musical ensemble to fall down and worship the statue that I have made, well and good.* But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire, and who is the god that will deliver you out of my hands?’

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, ‘O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to present a defence to you in this matter. 17If our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire and out of your hand, O king, let him deliver us.* 18But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods and we will not worship the golden statue that you have set up.’

God we thank you for etching us in you and you in us. 

God etch in us love that will last eternally and love that will uplift and sustain us all our earthly lives long.

God etch in our hearts the willingness to help the least of these our family members.

God etch in our minds the knowledge that we don't have anything to fear but to meet with courage that will make us the resilient children you made us to be.

In Your presence, O God, we make our Sacrament of Thanksgiving.

I NEED YOU

I need Your sense of time. Always I have an underlying anxiety about things. Sometimes I am in a hurry to achieve my ends and am completely without patience. It is hard for me to realize that some growth is slow, that not all processes are swift. I cannot discriminate between what takes time to develop and what can be rushed because my sense of time is dulled. O to understand the meaning of perspective that I may do all things with a profound sense of leisure of time.

I need Your sense of order. The confusion of the details of living is sometimes overwhelming. The little things keep getting in my way, providing ready-made excuses for failure to do and be what I know I ought to do and be. Much time is spent on things that are not very important while significant things are put in an insignificant place in my scheme of order. I must unscramble my affairs so that my life will become order. O God, I need Your sense of order.

I need Your sense of the future. Teach me to know that life is ever on the side of the future. Keep alive in me the future look, the high hope. Let me not be frozen either by the past or the present. Grant me, O Patient One, Your sense of the future without which all life would sicken and die.

OUR LITTLE LIVES

Our little lives, our big problems—these we place upon Your altar!

The quietness in Your temple of silence again and again rebuffs us:

For some there is no discipline to hold them steady in the waiting,

And the minds reject the noiseless invasion of Your spirit.

For some there is no will to offer what is central in the thoughts—

The confusion is so manifest, there is no starting place to take hold.

For some the evils of the world tear down all concentrations
