#ChristmasWords A Brief Season with Meaning ! Today's Word is #Commandment

Good Evening Dear Family of Love!

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a good day and took time to love one another just as our new #ChristmasWord #Commandment continues to tell us what God is calling us to do. God has given us two Great Commandments and I hope we all remember and know what they are if not, let us have a little refresher course:

Jesus said, “The first commandment is this: Hear, O Israel:
The Lord our God is the only Lord. Love the Lord your
God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your
mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: Love
your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment
greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31

Love is what we are called to do always. By following these two commandments we won't be steered wrong and life, living, and being in community in our neighborhoods from our house on the block to the village around the world will make us a unified and blessed family of God.  Some times during the year we do something called the Penitential Order and they remind us of the 10 Commandments. Maybe we need to see them again before we enter a new year:

The Decalogue: Contemporary -From the BCP

Hear the commandments of God to his people:
I am the Lord your God who brought you out of bondage.
You shall have no other gods but me.
Amen. Lord have mercy.

You shall not make for yourself any idol.
Amen. Lord have mercy.

You shall not invoke with malice the Name of the Lord your God.
Amen. Lord have mercy.

Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy.
Amen. Lord have mercy.

Honor your father and your mother.
Amen. Lord have mercy.

You shall not commit murder.
Amen. Lord have mercy.

You shall not commit adultery.
Amen. Lord have mercy.

You shall not steal.
Amen. Lord have mercy.

You shall not be a false witness.
Amen. Lord have mercy.

You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.
Amen. Lord have mercy.

In my religious denomination and others they have an Outline of Faith or Catechism that teaches us the basics of our beliefs. Let us learn a little more about commandments.

The Ten Commandments From the BCP

Q. What are the Ten Commandments?
A. The Ten Commandments are the laws given to Moses
and the people of Israel.

Q. What do we learn from these commandments?
A. We learn two things: our duty to God, and our duty to
our neighbors
.
Q. What is our duty to God?

A. Our duty is to believe and trust in God;
I To love and obey God and to bring others to
know him;
II To put nothing in the place of God;
III To show God respect in thought, word, and
deed;
IV And to set aside regular times for worship,
prayer, and the study of God’s ways.

Q. What is our duty to our neighbors?

A. Our duty to our neighbors is to love them as ourselves,
and to do to other people as we wish them to do to us;

V To love, honor, and help our parents and
family; to honor those in authority, and to meet
their just demands;

VI To show respect for the life God has given us; to
work and pray for peace; to bear no malice,
prejudice, or hatred in our hearts; and to be
kind to all the creatures of God;

VII To use all our bodily desires as God intended;

VIII To be honest and fair in our dealings; to seek
justice, freedom, and the necessities of life for all
people; and to use our talents and possessions
as ones who must answer for them to God;

IX To speak the truth, and not to mislead others by
our silence;

X To resist temptations to envy, greed, and
jealousy; to rejoice in other people’s gifts and
graces; and to do our duty for the love of God,
who has called us into fellowship with him.

Q. What is the purpose of the Ten Commandments?
A. The Ten Commandments were given to define our
relationship with God and our neighbors.

So dear ones let us take time to meditate upon the Commandments of God and take time to make vigil and pray that we may begin another year anew.

As we begin another year let us make a pledge one to another this night as we begin anew:

A pledge as we enter a new year!

Dear Family of love,

I promise to myself and you my family members in 2017 to do these things for the benefit of all.
Love God,My Neighbor who is also my family member who may be nearby, far away and yes even my enemy, and myself without fear but with love.
Forgive and let go so that I may experience the healing of my heart home.
Love my enemies and those who have wished and caused me harm so that I may be at peace.
Practice random acts of kindness without accepting anything in return.
To be more giving, more of a listener, more patient when needed, more, more, more.
Be a peacemaker who carries the light of Christ in to God's Fragile and Broken World.
Be a conservationist for the good of God's Cathedral of life.
Care for all our family members with love, empathy, and compassion.
Continue to work towards the unity and peace of all our brothers and sisters.
Additional promises may be made as we go through the year.
This is my promise made with love, joy, hope, and peace this day December 30, 2016
Signed
Sara

Today we remember Frances Joseph -Gaudet and her ministries in Education and Prison Reform. Here is her biography- Frances Joseph - Gaudet

Let us pray the collect  for her commemoration and read and meditate upon the lessons appointed for her day:

PRAYER (contemporary language)
Merciful God,  who raised up your servant Frances Joseph-Gaudet to work for prison reform and the education of her people: Grant that we, encouraged by  the example of her life, may work for those who are denied the fullness of life by reasons of incarceration and lack of access to education ; through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Lamentations 3:26-36

26 It is good that one should wait quietly
   for the salvation of the Lord
27 It is good for one to bear
   the yoke in youth,
28 to sit alone in silence
   when the Lord has imposed it,
29 to put one’s mouth to the dust
   (there may yet be hope),
30 to give one’s cheek to the smiter,
   and be filled with insults.

31 For the Lord will not
   reject for ever.
32 Although he causes grief, he will have compassion
   according to the abundance of his steadfast love;
33 for he does not willingly afflict
   or grieve anyone.

34 When all the prisoners of the land
   are crushed under foot,
35 when human rights are perverted
   in the presence of the Most High,
36 when one’s case is subverted
   —does the Lord not see it?

Psalm

146 Lauda, anima mea
1 Hallelujah!
Praise the Lord, O my soul! *
I will praise the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.

2 Put not your trust in rulers, nor in any child of earth, *
for there is no help in them.

3 When they breathe their last, they return to earth, *
and in that day their thoughts perish.

4 Happy are they who have the God of Jacob for their help! *
whose hope is in the Lord their God;

5 Who made heaven and earth, the seas, and all that is in them; *
who keeps his promise for ever;

6 Who gives justice to those who are oppressed, *
and food to those who hunger.

7 The Lord sets the prisoners free;
the Lord opens the eyes of the blind; *
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;

8 The Lord loves the righteous;
the Lord cares for the stranger; *
he sustains the orphan and widow,
but frustrates the way of the wicked.

9 The Lord shall reign for ever, *
your God, O Zion, throughout all generations.
Hallelujah!

Acts 16:25-34

25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26Suddenly there was an earthquake, so violent that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened. 27When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, since he supposed that the prisoners had escaped. 28But Paul shouted in a loud voice, ‘Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.’ 29The jailer* called for lights, and rushing in, he fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30Then he brought them outside and said, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ 31They answered, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.’ 32They spoke the word of the Lord* to him and to all who were in his house. 33At the same hour of the night he took them and washed their wounds; then he and his entire family were baptized without delay.34He brought them up into the house and set food before them; and he and his entire household rejoiced that he had become a believer in God.

John 13:31-35

31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, ‘Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. 32If God has been glorified in him,* God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once.33Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, “Where I am going, you cannot come.” 34I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. 35By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.’

A Prayer attributed to St. Francis

Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is
hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where
there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where
there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where
there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to
be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is
in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we
are born to eternal life. Amen.

Of a Prophetic Witness in the Church

II Gracious Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church. Fill it with all truth, in all truth with all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in anything it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, strengthen it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it; for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son our Savior, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Of a Prophetic Witness in Society

II Almighty God, whose prophets taught us righteousness in the care of your poor: By the guidance of your Holy Spirit, grant that we may do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly in your sight; through Jesus Christ, our Judge and Redeemer, who lives and reigns with you and the same Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

For Social Service

II Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son came not to be served but to serve: Bless all who, following in his steps, give themselves to the service of others; that with wisdom, patience, and courage, they may minister in his Name to the suffering, the friendless, and the needy for the love of him who laid down his life for us, your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

For Education

II Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom: Enlighten by your Holy Spirit those who teach and those who learn, that, rejoicing in the knowledge of your truth, they may worship you and serve you from generation to generation; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Magnificat

"My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
His mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever."

Holy God we pray for the forgiveness of  our misdeeds and sins as we forgive those who have hurt us . Help us to learn to ask for forgiveness and be forgiving so that there may be peace and healing in our heart homes.

Holy God we pray that we may let go of the many things that may linger in our heart homes from the past year so that we my find peace.

Holy God we pray that all warring factions may lay down their weaponry and practice peace and learn to love.

Holy God we pray for all God's children who are in harms way this night.

Holy God we pray for all homeless, hungry, and  those who do not have good clothing who will not find shelter from the cold tonight.

Holy God we pray for all who are ill and in need of healing. We  pray for peace in their hearts while they await your healing.

For all cities in our country  and around the world, who are experiencing unrest. We pray for an end to all gun violence and  hate of any kind.
For those who are traveling this holiday season.
For families where there is division.
For our additional prayers and thanksgivings______________________________________
For those suffering from Mental illness and depression this time of year.
For all caregivers.

Holy God we lay these our prayers at the feet  and in the Name of  your only son Jesus who came to show us how to forgive, love, and care for all God's children. Amen

Or these:

God of Love come among us as we pray this night.

God of Love come to our hearts and fill them more fully with hope, joy, love, and peace.

God of Love help us to bring to this fragile and broken world a climate of love, forgiveness, and the indwelling of the fruits of the Spirit to all people. Help us to call to mind these fruits: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

God of Love, We pray for the least of these this night at home and around the world.

God of Love, we pray for those who are ill and who are in need of proper medical care, and the patience to await the healing you are bringing them.

God of Love, Take away from us the need to speak when we need to listen with the ears of our hearts, and not to seek to reply but understand.

God of Love, help us to become the peacemakers and children you are calling us to be.

God of Love, give us the courage in the words of the Prophet Micah "To do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God"

God of Love, we pray for an end to all forms of hateful division and anger towards those who differ from us.

God of Love, we pray that we will live out the words of Teresa of Avila in her famous prayer

“Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.”

God of Love, we pray that we may become instruments of peace as in the words from St. Francis of Assisi :

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

God of Love, give us courage to live out and listen to your words you spoke through you son Jesus on the sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 5:1-12New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

The Beatitudes

When Jesus[a] saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely[b] on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

God of Love, help us to acknowledge our dependence upon you and each other. Help us to build bridges and tear down walls of division and hatred.

God of Love, give us strength to live each day without fear of those who differ from us and gather the strength to find common ground in Love for one another.
