Day 2 in the Desert Wilderness! Setting the stage to write our own wilderness narrative!

Good Evening Dear Family of Love and God!

Wow it has been a strange day out in the wilderness! How has it been for you today?  I had a strange encounter with an evil dude who kept trying to get me to do things, I normally wouldn't do! I resisted! Oops! That's Jesus' story not my own however part of our homework this week is to write our own wilderness narrative. Yesterday we had the reading from the Gospel about Jesus' trek into the wilderness after his baptism in the Jordan River by his cousin John the Baptist. I don't think he consulted John before this extraordinary journey. Strange that two cousins would have desert and wilderness experiences. Their poor mothers! Any way we are going to write our stories towards the end of the week and tell it from our own life experience. A reminder of the Gospel Story from yesterday:

Matthew 4:1-11

Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was famished. The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written,

‘One does not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Then the devil took him to the holy city and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple, saying to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written,

‘He will command his angels concerning you,’ 
and ‘On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.’”
Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor; and he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! for it is written,

‘Worship the Lord your God, 
and serve only him.’”
Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels came and waited on him.

Dear Ones Let us take time for our Virtual Candlelight Prayer Vigil. Let us light our candles and be at prayer. Tonight let us pray that we may not be tempted to be led into hatred bigotry,division, and all that separates us from our family members. Let us pray to find strength in God's love to put on the mantle of Love and shine and show God's light to the world. We pray for all who are ill and in any kind of struggle. Let us pray in the word's Jesus taught us in either the traditional or contemporary form:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Seventh Day: Morning Prayer

35 Judica, Domine
1 Fight those who fight me, O Lord; *
attack those who are attacking me.
2 Take up shield and armor *
and rise up to help me.
3 Draw the sword and bar the way against those
who pursue me; *
say to my soul, “I am your salvation.”
4 Let those who seek after my life be shamed and humbled, *
let those who plot my ruin fall back and be dismayed.
5 Let them be like chaff before the wind, *
and let the angel of the Lord drive them away.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery, *
and let the angel of the Lord pursue them.

36 Dixit injustus

Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured

God of all goodness, we see you in our family members' eyes and feel your presence in our hearts. Help us to remember that you are in heaven and heaven is wherever you are and we your children are.

God of all goodness, let us speak your Name with loving reverence and awe. Help us to Hallow your name.

God of all goodness, help us to know that your kingdom and kindom are coming, your will is being done everywhere here on Earth and in the Heavens above, 

God of all goodness, we thank you for the gifts of daily bread and our needs. Help us to remember  that we can live with what you give us not in scarcity but in plenty.

God of all goodness, we ask you for your forgiveness when we sin against our family members both human and against all your creation. Help us to remember that your son Jesus forgave our sins by death on the cross. Help us to know this at the heart home level without fear and that when we forgive we are sewn back into right relationship with everyone and everything. 

God of all goodness when we face any kind of struggle help us to remember this as our response: Lead us not into temptation.

God of all goodness, deliver us from evil by giving us that not so gentle tap on the shoulder. Keep us away from the missteps in  our lives. 

God of all goodness, help us to remember that everything belongs to you and that while we live here on earth we are to be good stewards and treat everything with loving care, dignity, and respect. 
May we remember the final words of your prayer:

For the kingdom, the power, 
and the glory are yours, 
now and for ever. Amen

Luke 8:40–56

As he went, the crowds pressed in on him. Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years; and though she had spent all she had on physicians, no one could cure her. She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his clothes, and immediately her hemorrhage stopped. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
While he was still speaking, someone came from the leader’s house to say, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer.” When Jesus heard this, he replied, “Do not fear. Only believe, and she will be saved.” When he came to the house, he did not allow anyone to enter with him, except Peter, John, and James, and the child’s father and mother. They were all weeping and wailing for her; but he said, “Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But he took her by the hand and called out, “Child, get up!” Her spirit returned, and she got up at once. Then he directed them to give her something to eat.
