What Independence Day Means to me!

Dear Family of Love,

I decided not to walk tonight to give my legs a rest and not walk tonight. This is part on honoring my body. I can't believe the difference they are feeling since last week. They are doing very well and I'm trying to keep them that way. Tomorrow we celebrate July 4th, Independence day in the United States! What does this national holiday mean to me?  That's a good question to ask oneself and for us to ponder on this Independence Day Eve. As with Thanksgiving, Independence day are those core holidays that remind us of our country's heritage either good, bad, or indifferent. Every resident in our country may see these days very differently. For me the 4th of  July isn't about fireworks or major parties that may get out of control. The 4th of July reminds me of the Declaration Of Independence and The Preamble of the Constitution which are below, they are standalone documents that should remind us that All Means All and not some.

The 4fh of July means to me that we must continue to fight against the tyranny of injustice, inequality, and denial of basic necessities and rights for those who go without and are on the margins of society!

The 4th of July means that we get to take stock of where we have been, where we are, and where we are headed.

The 4th of July means that we must take time to continue to educate  and re-educate ourselves by going back to basics and study American History and Government.

The 4th of July means that we get to remember the men and the women who lost their lives by taking a risk to break free from a foreign despot in order to form a new nation.

The 4th of July means we get to look at the documents of our country and fall in love with them all over again.

The 4th of July means that we get to see that the seeds of religious freedom were being planted and that the separation of church and state was in the near future. Remember each colony had their own faiths and were enclaves of sanctuary for those who faced religious persecution abroad. We mustn't fear other people's faiths!

The 4th of July means that we are a family and that we need to get back to the basics and not be suspicious and hateful towards each other.

The 4th of July reminds me of  music of Billings, Copeland, and many others. Tonight let us listen to a few of these while we pray and give thanks for our lives, liberty, and "The Pursuit of Happiness"

God we pray for our country and its leaders that they in the words of the prophet Micah "Do Justly, Love Mercy, and Walk Humbly with God"

God we pray for our ancestors who brought forth liberty to a fledgling nation.

God we pray for our future leaders that they may educate themselves wisely in the history of this country and its governance.

God we pray for peace in our land that we may learn that all means all and not some and that all of us are equal in the sight of God and in the laws of this land/

God we pray for peace in this fragile and broken world of ours that all our family members  may come to know and enjoy the freedoms we have been given.

God we pray for all those concerns that are on our hearts tonight remembering_________________

God we thank you for giving us the gift of free will and all other gifts that you shower upon us every day.

God we pray that we may come to know each other as brothers and sisters better and see you in them.

God we pray this prayer for our Country from THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER

Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
