Prayer Walking at Zermatt
Good
Afternoon and Welcome to our afternoon Prayer Walking Workshop.
I’m pleased
to be your facilitator and look forward to our time together. A few safety checks before we enter the
wonderful world of outdoor worship called prayer walking. Make sure you have water with you, you have
your laces tied securely.
Now let us
begin by doing a few breathing exercises using this phrase
Inhale the Holy Spirit
Exhale Love
Now let us
consecrate this walk to God
God as we
set our feet upon the path that you have chosen for us this day, enliven our spirits, quicken our
steps, expand our hearts and may we feel
the Waters of Life coursing through our veins. Amen.
Begin in our
minds and hearts by praying for our family members who are our neighbors.
Take a few
steps and imagine we see a homeless person sleeping on a bus bench. This is when we pray for the least of these.
Let us stay there for a moment and ask God to help us to find ways in which to
serve them.
Take a few
steps more and imagine we see a lot of trash. Let us pray that we may be good
conservationists of God’s Cathedral of Life.
Let us stop,
look, and listen to what God is saying to us at heart level. (We are getting ready to cross the street and
are waiting for the light to change)
Take a few
steps and notice there is a library or school, pray for those who teach and
those who learn. Do this every time you
see a business, city hall, police station, hospital, place of worship, and be
at prayer.
Take a few steps and see the hills and think and
pray Psalm 121
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.
4 He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day; nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life.
8 The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and for evermore
Take a few steps and pray your own prayer list.
Now take time to be
one with God and nature.
Pray for whatever concerns you and is on your hearts.
Pray this concluding prayer
Gracious and loving God we thank you for this time of prayer,
meditation, and prayer walking. Thank you that we are walking with you not just
on your journey but ours. We pray and give thanks in the Name of Jesus the
great prayer walking model of us all. Amen.
