Dear Family of Love and Pilgrims on our Journey,
A Blessed Good Friday to all. This evening I did the Whole Holy 3 on the King's Highway (El Camino Real) on a cloud covered Good Friday evening. I took time to Stop, Look, Listen, and Pray along the way and dial in with all that is Good Friday. Good Friday finds us as people of faith looking back yet again to Jesus' betrayal, trial, a painful walk carrying a cross along the Via Dolorosa or Way of Sorrows to his death on the cross. Walking tonight as one who has just had major abdominal surgery made me realize how awkward and painful it must have been for Our Lord. Pain in places you never knew that you could feel pain and yet Jesus endured pain, humiliation, and a terrifyingly barbaric execution for the sins of the whole world past, present and future. Who are we to complain when we get a twinge? I'm not are you? Prayer walking tonight meant more than just praying for all the concerns our family has requested but for our world and all the terribly sad things that have occurred this past week. Tonight's NBC Nightly News had very few uplifting news pieces and here is a partial list: Earthquake in Mexico, Avalanche Victims on Mount Everest, Ferry Boat in Korea, just to name a few. On my walk I encountered many of our lonely and elderly persons who might have been homeless. Everyone tonight had the look of someone who was frightened and downcast and if I would have been courageous could have used a hug and be told that they mattered and that I love them. I smiled and looked them in the eye instead. What does that have to do with Good Friday you ask? Everything ! Jesus not only died for our sins and redeemed us, he also drew the entire human family to himself and made us truly once and for all the Family of God and a loving and merciful god at that. I think that deserves special notice on Keeping the Faith Friday Fearlessly and without being Fretful, don't you? I do!
Let us Stop, Look, and Listen to God as we pray along the King's Highway (El Camino Real)
God when we find our lives cloud covered help us to see and feel your presence and your light in the depths of our despair and feelings of isolation. Help us to feel your arms wrapped securely around us and see that one set of footprints as you carry us as you carried your Son on Good Friday.
Help us today in the midst of sorrow and grief over our sins ring out the Gospel message of Redemption and love.
Help us to ring out the Gospel message to our family members who have forgotten the Good News and those who have yet to hear it.
We pray that our leaders and all those who are leaders of the nations throughout the world may do Justice, Love, Mercy and Walk Humbly with you O, God.
We pray that in the midst of today's tears and the sorrowful remembrance of our Lord's Suffering we may see goodness and love indwelling in all our family members, who are nearby, stranger, and our enemies.
Help us to walk the King's Highway every day on this journey we call life and even in the Thin Places where we will see you face to face.
God give us as we await the Feast of the Resurrection enlivened spirits, quickened steps, and hearts that are tenderized and expanded and the feeling of the Water of Life coursing through our veins.
Take time Stop, Look, and Listen and reflect on what this image symbolizes for you.
May we follow the path that you have set before us this day and always.
May we always be ready to sprout new growth in the fruits of Spirit each and every day that we live.
We give thanks to God this night for the Gift of your Son Jesus who redeemed us and made us whole. We offer our prayers, thanksgivings, celebrations and remembrances to you Lord Jesus. Amen.
