Don't be in a rush without doing this check list! Being a good safety steward!

Dear Family of Love and Pilgrims on Our Journey,

Tonight as I was walking there was a fire somewhere in our town. A big one! I hope that the news will let us know what happened because it must have been at least a 5 alarm one and not of the chili variety. Please pray for all concern. The ambulance that was following the fire trucks was in silent mode. That brings me to our challenge for February and every day:
Safety first helps your bodies, minds and spirits.
These are random suggestions:
Report all street lights that have burnt out bulbs! There is a pole number for each of them. Call Street Light alert (Public works dept usually has the number)
Check all outlets, vents, and smoke and CO detectors. Get rid of old pans or skillets that have lost their usefulness.
Keep pathways clear of junk
If you have children or grandkids keep all poisons and drugs out of their reach. Check your garage for hazardous materials.
Dispose of all unused or old medications.Take these to your Sheriff's office or Hospital.
Dispose of batteries in the right way.
Turn off the oven and stove when you are finished.
Never run appliances while you sleep or are out of your home.
Keep your car in good running condition.
Make sure you have flashlights in your car, purse, pocket, lights on your bicycles.
Have elderly friends and family? install ramps, grab bars, and get them their own handicapped placards. They are free. Life alerts too!
Watch lint traps.
De-clutter
Surge- protectors everywhere and GFI sockets please.

Before you leave home: Day or Night
Check all lights, appliances, furnaces, and doors!
Do you have your flash lights with you at night!
Can you find the following quickly in your wallet: ID, Health Insurance Card, AAA card (Automobile Club Card), and list of medications and contact person list. I would even include on the back of the meds list your  doctors and family members, and clergy list.
Do you have a hide a key some place on your property?
Let someone know where you are going if you have a room mate or elderly relative.
I know this sounds invasive but make a note somewhere in your cell phone telling your last location if you are a woman at night.  Men you should do the same! Take a picture of where you parked your car in a parking structure. See the one below in the pix section with 1B!

Be aware of your surroundings! Have one headphone out of your ear! Take pictures of your surroundings!

Dear Family let us pray for safety at home and wherever we may be and those who keep us safe.

Lord keep watch over all of our law enforcement personnel, first responders, Emergency Medical Technicians, all those who work and minister to our family members in the emergency rooms.

Lord watch over the family members who were involved in the fire this evening.

Lord give us pause to check our surroundings before we leave home at any time of the day or night.

Make us able mindful of all our elderly and disabled family members and those who live alone.

We pray for those who continue to be victims of violence where we learn or shop. We pray for an end of violent acts of any kind.

We pray for safe streets, roads, and sidewalks help us to be bold and report their disrepair.

We pray for all who keep our roads and streets safe during severe weather.

Help us to keep watch over our family members who live in the cold, outside, and are hungry. May we be aware of where they make their homes in the outdoors.

All this we ask in the name of God who protects, defends, and delivers us from all harm. Amen.

Well dear family that is your safety talk for the month. I love you and hope you have a blessed Saturday still and a more glorious Sunday tomorrow. Remember to check in with your faith community or as I like to call it the faith factory!

Love, peace, joy, and my mind stayed on Our Lord! Giving thanks every day for God and you!

Sara
